I know that this is even more off topic, i pray that the moderators will have mercy on us in our shock
I lived beneith the San Gabriel mnts. in
South Californiawhen they decided to grow two inches about 9 or so years ago...Mountains DO NOT grow quietly....we had flashing lights in the sky and the most terrible sound that I have ever heard.
My dad was in Vietnam , but I dont remember a lot about it.This is just awful . I keep thinking about little children coming home to find out that Mommy/Daddy is NEVER coming home again.
I am going to go to the local hospital and give blood tomorrow.
It is all that I have to give
Thanks for letting me rant.

I keep thinking of people , little children coming home to the fact that the person that they love more than any thing in the world.....will never be back.
how can one human being do this to another human being?
I live on the West coast and this is physically pretty far from me , but I am entirely with everyone else in spirit.
My dad was 9n Vietnam and was an EMT , this all hits pretty close to me.
Thank you, everyone , for being such exceptional people,Hugs to everyone.

I heard during a class about a "plane crash" in NY and something about "the towers." Didn't realize until after I got out of the net at ~11:30am, and wen't to check out the news on TV.
**We should start the recovery, not the revenge.**
My thoughts exactly. And I saw one of the news channels post up (as part of the information) the year of completion and cost of the towers, plus they keep rerunning the footage over and over...it makes me sick to the stomach. There was something a lot more priceless than two towers going down, there were people in there. And revenge, as is its nature, only breeds more revenge.
**celebrating the attack**
I understand, but honest to goodness, I cannot celebrate, even when there were bombings over there too. Hell, were are talking innocent lives everywhere, can't celebrate human tragedy regardless of where I am. I'm just hurting for all the people.

Well, I've been absent from here for a while because my grandmother had a heart attack. That pales compared to the happenings of yesterday.
I got into my car to go to work and heard it on the radio. I thought it was a hoax at first. My mom watched the second plane hit the tower on TV. My God...words fail.
At work, we did nothing but listen to the radio. We heard when the plane hit the Pentagon. For a while we heard the White House was on fire and a plane had gone down in Camp David. No one knew what the hell was going on... We all looked out the windows, expecting to see planes falling out of the sky over downtown.
Here in Kansas City, we shut down our downtown area and our brand new federal building. Hundreds of people were stranded at KCI airport. My husband works in one of the taller buildings in the city, on the skyline in fact, and I was terrified for him for a while. All day he watched Air Force fighters patroling the city. Everyone was scared to death because Kansas City would make a tempting target. We have a major Strategic Air Command center, stealth bombers at Whiteman Air Force Base, and many major mid-western federal offices. My husband's minister and my doctor are military reserve and were activated and called away.
These bastards shut down the entire country. We'll never be the same. There's not a fiery pit in hell deep enough for the people who did this. Jesus...there's probably 20,000 or more people dead here! In 11 years in the Vietnam War we lost 50,000. People call this a second Pearl Harbor. It's worse. We don't know who did this. There's not a clear enemy. And what's worse, retaliation will lead to more bloodshed. One day, it will be a nuke or a biological weapon and we'll all be dead. People can be brave and heroic, they can also be stupid. We just need to concentrate on recovery before we go pointing fingers.
An example of stupid is the gas price gouging and hoarding here in the Midwest. Gas went up to $5 a gallon and lines formed that were blocks long and caused car accidents. Stations across the city ran out of gas. Want a gas shortage? Well, create one by acting stupid. Grrr...
Ughhh... I hoped I would never live to see something this horrible. To Spatch, Shady and anyone and everyone else up in the Northeast, my prayers are with you. To Elwing, Kurtlover and all our international posters, thank you, your support means a lot. At least we're not alone in this big, bad world.
Wow...I heard Canada just allied with us against the terrorists, along with Great Britain. I guess Canada's not neutral anymore...

I just got this on my CFAN mailing list and thought I'd share:
...wrapping himself in the soft, silky banner, ashes on his skin caking
noble blue with grey, Captain America looked to the skies.. and wept as
they seemed to fall forever....

Hey guys. I'm checking in from Brooklyn. I hope all of you that are here in the states are okay, and that nobody lost any loved ones. It was so bizzare here yesterday. People were prophesizing doomsday, crying, talking about war, or going about their business like nothing was going on. My uncle is a firefighter, and we didn't hear from him until late last night, so I was a little preoccupied. I was calling my friends in the city all day long. It was still smoky downtown in some places this morning. Many friends of mine evacuated the city by walking down the highway and over bridges, and described the people as being dusty and shell-shocked yet orderly. There are planes and helicopters flying above me sporadically, causing my heart to pound furiously. There was nothing but errie silence last night, broken up by the wailing of sirens. There are still a lot of emergency vehicles going by, but I do live in Brooklyn...... Family friends that worked in the building are still unaccounted for. It is terribly sad. The smoke and ash was visible from Brooklyn. It wafted up into the air, changing colors, first black, then white, and then grey, and it settled into the atmosphere in a phosphorescent haze that was a light bronzish color. I went to the park near my house, which used to have a very clear view of the Twin Towers on the horizon. Not anymore. Just the haze of particles in the air on one side, and a pure, clear, calm blue sky on the other. Mass transit is all messed up. I was supposed to work tonight, but I do not want to risk going into and subsequently getting stranded in the city. It is very scary. Those poor people on the planes. Those poor people just doing their 9-5 thing. I understand people being angry about the way the U.S. military and economy functions, but none of the people killed were policy makers, or willingly perpetrated exploitative acts on other people. It's such a senseless waste. I really hope that there is not a war. People are already jumping to conclusions, looking for scapegoats, and broadcasting incendiary images in the media. Those images of a faction of Palestinians celebrating were about as inflamatory of the images of religious Jewish people celebrating in New York at the destruction of historical, religious sites, and when that little boy throwing rocks was ventalated by machine guns. Totally inappropriate and deliberate. I worry about immigrants being the targets of misplaced nationalistic violence. The Zionists on campus at my school already have U.S. Marine Corps t-shirts with solgans about faith in hebrew and english. Totally inappropriate, insensitive and very scary. No one made any demands or took credit for anything, and already everybody thinks that they are just so well informed and are calling for attacks on Afgahanistan. All these blameless people will die, both here and abroad if that happens, because our governments are run by corrupt, self-centered idiots. They'll sing "God Bless America", send out inflamatory images to stir up the public via the media, then hide out in fallout shelters while the populace goes off to fight against something that they do not understand. This was not an attack on democracy, as it is being insinuated by politicians in the U.S., it was a deliberate attack on the U.S's current exploitative model of capitalism, as well as U.S. military meddling in places where they have a vested financial interest, and U.S. support of oppressive dictatorships that kill their own (albeit dissident) people. I'm not condoning any acts of terrorism, but most of the United States is so ignorant on our foreign policies that they have no clue as to why anybody would attack these particular places. It's just reactionary bulls**t. All these idiots are talking about enlisting and killing people are manifesting mispalced nationalism, and it is all the more dangerous because of the religious overtones. They don't even know who it is they want to "nuke". Arabs, of course, the media postulated that they may be to blame, but which ones? Why would they do this? What, they had nothing better to do than plan an elaborate and strategic hijacking, just to "Threaten our freedom"? (Our freedom to exploit other nations?) To thwart democracy? Do we actually live in a participatory democracy? I think not. I have an awful dread that this is all a ploy by our own government to garner support for an unpopular president and a nation doubting their place in our preposterous electoral process, with Arabs being a convienient scapegoat. Is it any coincidence that we tell school children that Iraquis call America "The great satan?" It is very dangerous ground we are treading. I am scared. A bit paranoid, perhaps, but you all get the gist of what I'm trying to convey, I hope.

You're defenitely not alone in this world, in fact there is just nothing else on here, not on tv, not in the papers, not in the conversations of people. At my work, we had the radio on all day. We felt like it happened right next to our door. When something happens in the states it happens in the entire western world.
We will have a day of mourning friday, which is well-meant and heartfelt but typical of european slowness.
I'm considering giving blood, not that it will be any good to the New Yorkers, but it is a great idea in general. I'm afraid my medication will render me useless though.

**I am scared. A bit paranoid, perhaps, but you all get the gist of what I'm trying to convey, I hope.**
